Why is Junglecity so unique?
There are very few sites as unique as Junglecity. It is an award-winning Japanese site about, to the Japanese, a foreign place. This is an invaluable resource to the Japanese-speaking community both locally and abroad. The Japanese more than any other Asian population have difficulty with the English language, so having a comprehensive site in their native language is extremely important.
-
How much monthly traffic does Junglecity get?
We average about 2 million page views a month. The number of page views in January 2005 was 2,065,332.
-
How many users are new and how many are repeat users?
Since our users have access to Junglecity without logging in, we track these numbers by IP. In an average week in January 2005, we had 21,000 unique users, with 25% visiting more than once. Additionally, Junglecity users are on our site for an average 12-13 minutes, which is much higher compared with average visiting lengths of other sites.
-
Wouldn't those Japanese people traveling to the US do their research in English anyway?
Given that less than 20% of Japanese are considered to have strong English language skills, most, even those traveling to English-speaking countries, prefer navigating the web in Japanese. Making hotel or restaurant reservations, for example, is much more comfortably done in Japanese. Also when there's an opportunity to get opinions about places to eat, stay, and visit, Junglecity users take comfort in knowing the information comes from fellow Japanese. Our bulletin boards are lively with travelers and locals using them everyday to exchange information and make contacts with each other.

Are there plans to create an English version of Junglecity?
No. Our mission is to provide information that is useful specifically to Japanese travelers to New Orleans and Louisiana State. Given the differences in culture and values, much of what Junglecity produces would be undervalued by the English-speaking audience. Our restaurant reviews would be another example of how a translation would be an under-appreciated effort. We focus on "how" the Japanese care about their dining experience through a different point of view than non-Japanese. Therefore, we choose to maintain our focus on providing the Japanese population current and detailed information, which they would appreciate.
