May I have a word with you?
ちょっといいですか？

Gary:	John, may I have a word with you?
John:	Of course. What's up?
Gary:	You've been late to work 3 days in a row. Please try harder to be on time.
John:	I'm sorry. But with all the construction on I-5, traffic has been terrible.
Gary:	Traffic is always bad in Seattle. You'll just have to start leaving your house a little earlier.

Gary:	ジョン、ちょっといいかい？
John:	もちろん。どうしたんですか？
Gary:	ここのところ、3日間続けて遅刻しているね。定刻に出社するようにしてくれたまえ。
John:	すみません。でも、I-5の工事で、交通状況が悪くて。
Gary:	シアトルの交通状況はいつも悪いだろう。少し早く家を出る必要があるね。

"May I have a word with you?"とは、その後に、シリアスなこと、または重要なことが話される様子を感じさせます。 "in a row"とは、「続けて」「継続して」という意味です。
